(Click to collapse/expand)   Our Beginnings

We have been doing woodworking professionally in one form or another since 1981. In fact it goes back farther than that when we were building woodworking projects in young childhood and in high school. After obtaining our B.A. in accounting, with a short follow-up stint in the banking industry, we moved into full time carpentry, doing new homes and remodeling. Over time we developed our fine trim work and cabinetry skills and over the past 10+ years we have been doing custom cabinetry and furniture as well. Some have said that there is sawdust in our veins as we come from a long line of woodworkers. Bottom line, we love "doing wood" and hope we can help you as well in your future projects.

A&M Homes, Inc has been run and operated by Alan and Marty Schmanke since its inception in 1981. Being family owned and managed since its inception has allowed us to direct and shape a company in accordance with Judeo-Christian values and principles. Our company is founded on the principles of honesty, integrity, truth, justice and respect. Initially building in the north and northwest suburbs of Chicago, our work now currently focuses in the Fox Valley area, but we would be happy to talk to you wherever you might be.

Because we have been doing residential construction for so many years, we have likewise assembled a team of support professionals that are reliable and trustworthy. The subcontractors we work with have likewise been tested and have shown to meet the standards of quality that A&M espouses. Our commitment to quality and value shows in every project we do. The many customer referrals we receive each year attest to our history of work. We believe that a satisfied customer is our best form of advertising.

From the start of every project we listen to your needs and desires. Drawings, specifications and written proposals help to assure that the building process progresses with the least amount of interruption and delay. Timelines combined with regular communication help to complete each project smoothly and eliminate those unwanted surprises that often seem to surface with our competitors. Any cost changes are only accomplished with written change orders so no one is surprised when the job wraps up. At the end of the project we want you to look back with a smile on your face rather than a frown. We want our service to you to have been enjoyable and pleasurable, not enduring.

It's been said that actions speak louder than words. Whether it's parenting, teaching or building wood projects, the principle holds. We invite you therefore to not only read our testimonials and view our pictures, but to contact us so we might interact with you as you share your desires with us. Our philosophy follows that of marine Wm. A. Foster who was awarded the Medal of Honor in the Battle of Okinawa in 1945 for his "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty."

"Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives."

   William A. Foster, marine
